Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems when he left the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins at the end of the week.

The English side has previously lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission of the third.
