Liverpool Refuses to Alter Attacking Style In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Insists Arne Slot

Arne Slot has revealed that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their forward-thinking philosophy in search of a turnaround. The head coach admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven matches was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.

Growing Expectations Throughout Challenging Phase

The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his makeshift team were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," stated the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the continental tournament and play against Manchester City in the domestic competition.

Player Depth Stays Unchallenged

The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and completely set for the fixture list". He mentioned that the summer investment in talents including Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the years to come".

Team Cohesion Issues

When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with several explanations why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • No matter if I could list 200 excuses
  • As Liverpool manager you should not suffer defeats
  • Unfortunately six out of seven

Backline Performance

Only Burnley (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than Liverpool (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have faced two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the champions have been too open and maintains there is no reason to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after ten matches without a shutout.

"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to modify our philosophy entirely but we need to do better in keeping clean sheets," he said.

Specific Instances

"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't given up a numerous openings. Not at all. We do concede a slightly more than the prior term but that stems from us being behind early so you play more openly. But in general I don't think that our issue is that we give up too many openings. Our issue is we fail to convert the openings we produce."
