The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
