The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Authorities Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed condolences on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man detained in a search at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Officers that entered the hotel recovered two handguns and magazines when the individual was arrested, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only here growing up... but at the university she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”
