While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.” The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A New Life The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement. “This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message. “It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
