The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.

The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an unintentional collision with teammate Spencer Jones.

His teammate came down on the foot of the big man, and he instantly went down to the floor grabbing his leg.

The veteran player, that tops the NBA season in boards and assists, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the problem.

The player will undergo an MRI on the following day to determine the seriousness of the injury.

"Immediately, he realized something was wrong," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who is injured, that's difficult, particularly somebody as talented as he is. More information will come tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Of course, right now, I'm more concerned about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing something of that nature."
